How much is the average pay per hour when working with a company?
In 2009, the average pay per hour is around 15-35 pesos, depending on the company. The company often charges the student between 30-70, and the teacher gets anywhere from 30-60% of that.
How much is the average pay per hour when working privately?
If you work as a private tutor you may set your own amount, however often teachers charge their private students between 35-50 pesos per hour.
Is it difficult to find work?
English is extremely popular in Argentina, especially among the younger generations, and there are always teaching jobs available whether in schools, private institutes, company’s, or on a private level.
How much do I need to earn per month to live in Buenos Aires?
The costs in Buenos Aires have changed over the past 5 years, rising as each year goes by, but it is safe to say that in 2009 a comfortable wage would be 3000 pesos. Now, if you can cut out costs and budget well, you can live off of 2000 pesos, but that’s pushing it. This all depends on your lifestyle but I wouldn’t budget for less than 2000.
Are there a lot of foreigner’s like me teaching?
Buenos Aires is home to a lot of foreigners, either studying, vacationing, or teaching English, and yes, if you are a TEFL teacher, you will be teaching alongside a myriad of other foreigner’s.
Should I know how to speak Spanish?
There is no Spanish requirement to teach English, however having a grasp or a concrete knowledge of the language can give you an advantage as many students like a teacher that can help them in both languages. It is always advisable to learn the local language where you are living as it will assist in both your career and personal life.
How long can I stay in Argentina with my tourist visa?
Most countries are granted a tourist visa upon arrival in Argentina, good for 90 days, and renewable every 90 days thereafter.
