Packing Guide for Teaching TEFL in Buenos Aires

Are you planning on moving to Buenos Aires to teach English?
If so, are you wondering what type of clothing you should be bringing?
It is never an easy task to know what sort of wardrobe is going to be appropriate in a foreign country. For this reason we have put together a guide so that you can pack like a pro for your new life Teaching English in Buenos Aires.
The Basics:
If you didn’t already know, spring in Argentina has arrived and the weather is getting warmer and warmer. The average temperature from November to February is 80 F with high humidity.
What to bring: Bring items that are lightweight and breathable. Cottons and Linens are great for hot humid weather. Shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, jeans, skirts, leggings, light dresses, and sweaters/cardigans will be perfect of everyday wear.
Tip: A good rule of thumb is to pack things that you can mix and match, this will reduce the amount of clothes you need, and you will not feel like you are wearing the same thing every day. Avoid things that need to be dry cleaned, as this can get expensive over time.
Tintoria = Dry Cleaner
Lavadero = Laundry Mat
What to wear to your TEFL lessons:
Make sure to ask your employer about dress codes before you begin your first day.
For the Men:
If it is ‘formal wear’ you can put together a nice pair of slacks and a button up shirt. If it is ‘work casual’, a pair of slacks with short sleeves, even jeans or shorts can work.
For the Women:
If it is “formal wear”, a pair of slacks or knee length skirt and a nice blouse will be perfect. If it is “work casual”, slacks, short sleeves, dress, shorts, etc, can be appropriate.
Remember, Argentines, both men and women, take a lot of pride in their looks meaning it is ALWAYS better to overdress than under dress.
Bags: A bag that is functional and comfortable is most important. Backpacks and side bags work great because you can keep all of your TEFL materials with you on the go.
Keep in mind that if you forget to bring something with you or need something after you arrive, Buenos Aires is a great place to shop and there are many stores that offer really nice pieces at very reasonable prices.
