9 de Julio – What to do this long weekend in Buenos Aires

This week, Argentina will be celebrating their national holiday 9 de Julio or Dia de la Independencia which celebrates the day Argentina was born into a country and its independence from Spain. If you are taking TEFL classes or teaching TEFL in Buenos Aires, this is a day off for you!
9 Great Things To Do on Your Day Off for 9 de Julio!
1. Sip a café con leche outside in the morning and wake up with the city.
2. Head downtown and check out the events happening in the streets, specifically on Avenida 9 de Julio and Plaza Mayo. Argentine’s love this national holiday and spare no expense in celebrating it.
3. Have lunch in Puerto Madero at one of the beautiful restaurants located next to the river. After check out the museum on the naval ship docked in the river, learning about this large boat and the navy in Argentina.
4. Take a bus from Puerto Madero to Parque Carlos Thays near the Jardin Zoologico and enjoy some gorgeous city-park atmosphere.
5. Head to Plaza Serano and enjoy the masses of locals and tourists who are browsing the streets, shopping, eating, drinking, and socializing. Make sure to hit up the people selling handicrafts in the streets.
6. Have an afternoon Argentine gelato (Italian icecream) at the Freddo located only two blocks from Plaza Serrano.
7. Go home and get some rest!
8. Head back out to Palermo to Thelonious Jazz Bar, be there by 9:00 if you want a seat, and sit back and enjoy the cool jazz with a couple of tapas and drinks.
9. If you get out of jazz before 12am, head to one of your favourite bars in the city to enjoy a nightcap and close-down the day.
