Teaching English in Buenos Aires? 5 Tips for Getting Around the City.

Buenos Aires is a BIG city. It has more than 44 neighbourhoods in the Capital Federal (inside the borders of Buenos Aires) and numerous neighbourhoods that just border the city, considered to be part of the Buenos Aires province. Thanks to its enormous size, the government has placed numerous forms of transportation around the city, actually make the city quite easy, fast, and convenient to travel around in. If you are a foreigner coming to the city to teach English, the capital can be quite overwhelming regarding transportation, so here are 5 tips for getting around the city.
1. Have a map of the city at all times. This does not have to be a bus map or subway map, just a regular map so that you know where you are and where you are going.
2. Have a bus and subway map of the city. Buy a Guia-T, explains all the bus routes in the city and outside, detailed maps included. Pick-up a subway map from the subway station. This will give you an idea of the subway routes and how to go the right way, every time!
3. Know where you are going before you begin your journey. Have an idea of your destination, how to get there, and how to get back. This will eliminate the headaches of getting lost.
4. Only bring what you need with you; bring the money you will need during your outing and forget about bring useless items or valuable. It is better to be safe than sorry.
5. Enjoy the city’s transportation. You can literally get anywhere in this city with public transportation; it’s cheap and fast too! Taking buses or the train, for example, gives you continuous city tours for only 1.25 pesos! Taking a registered taxi is the best way to travel at night or when going somewhere you have not been before, and it’s fairly inexpensive, plus super comfortable.
